The project focuses on delivering a high-performance EDM drilling process with a newly developed Drill 300 machine featuring the most advanced generator and servo control.
This CTI project will identify the requirements for the EDM drilling industry, especially for the aerospace and energy industry. Keeping surface integrity as the highest priority, process technology understanding gained through this project delivers very high erosion speeds with low tool wear for increasingly used aerospace materials (titanium and nickel alloys). Consequently, EDM drilling becomes a customer-tailored, economic, environmentally friendly and competent process for sub-millimeter scale hole drilling in turbine blades and other aerospace parts.
