Blog series 4/4: Green Deal

The EU Missions represent a novel funding instrument within Horizon Europe. Four out of the current five Missions are at the heart of the European Green Deal aimed at driving change through targeted and ambitious projects. The Missions are structured to address some of the most pressing environmental and societal challenges by leveraging national public and private investment and fostering cross-sector collaborations. By focusing on specific, measurable goals such as achieving climate-neutral cities, restoring our ecosystems and advancing sustainable agriculture, the EU Missions align research and innovation (R&I) efforts with the overarching objectives of the Green Deal. The common goal of all Missions is not only to accelerate progress towards a greener, more sustainable Europe but also to ensure that investments yield tangible and impactful results, driving systemic change and inspiring global leadership in climate action.

Open and forthcoming funding opportunities in the EU Missions

The EU Missions 2023-2025 Work Programme features the remaining call topics and indicative budgets of 123.97 million euros for the Climate call topics, 119 million euros for Cancer projects, 109.7million euros addressing Ocean calls, 101 million euros for the Cities projects and 134.50 million euros in the Soil area.

Adaptation to Climate Change

The Adaptation to Climate Change Mission aims to support at least 150 EU regions and communities to become climate resilient by 2030. In line with the EU Adaptation Strategy, the Mission’s goal is to support less developed regions, cities and local authorities to better understand, prepare for and manage climate risks, become aware and prepared for the changing climate, and demonstrate climate resilience solutions. Proposal submissions of the 9 call topics close on 18 September 2024.
