Upcoming Horizon Europe “Climate, Energy and Mobility” calls – opportunities for you?
2nd December 2022 at 3:56 pm
The European Union’s economy and society are legally obligated to become climate-neutral by 2050 according to the European Climate Law. To achieve this goal, Cluster 5 of Horizon Europe’s Pillar 2 (“Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness”) provides funding for a wide range of projects related to Climate, Energy and Mobility. We here provide a detailed overview of the soon-to-be-published Cluster 5 Work Programme for the coming two years of Horizon Europe.
The Cluster 5 Work Programme 2023-2024: Climate, Energy and Mobility
Which kind of research and innovation projects will be funded specifically? Some of our project partners of previously funded H2020 energy and mobility projects, such as CHEOPS, Mat4Rail, and the recently started Horizon Europe projects PEPPERONI and SOLARX, have already asked us this question. Hence, we had a closer look at the pre-published Work Programme. The many funding opportunities available in Cluster 5, reaching from clean energy systems, new solutions for smart grids and energy systems, to climate-neutral and sustainable mobility systems, can seem overwhelming even for experienced applicants. Luckily, they can be grouped into the following six destinations, each with a clearly defined expected impact.
Select the most relevant destination below and find the related call topics of the 2023-2024 Work Programme next to it, or directly jump to the infographic showing the submission deadlines 2023.
- Climate sciences and responses for the transformation towards climate neutrality
- Cross-sectoral solutions for the climate transition
- Sustainable, secure and competitive energy supply
- Efficient, sustainable and inclusive energy use
- Clean and competitive solutions for all transport modes
- Safe, Resilient Transport and Smart Mobility services for passengers and goods

Climate sciences and responses for the transformation towards climate neutrality
Expected impact: Transition to a climate-neutral and resilient society and economy enabled through advanced climate science, pathways and responses to climate change (mitigation and adaptation) and behavioural transformations.
Cross-sectoral solutions for the climate transition
Expected impact: Clean and sustainable transition of the energy and transport sectors towards climate neutrality facilitated by innovative cross-cutting solutions.
Sustainable, secure and competitive energy supply
Expected impact: More efficient, clean, sustainable, secure and competitive energy supply through new solutions for smart grids and energy systems based on more performant renewable energy solutions.
Efficient, sustainable and inclusive energy use
Expected impact: Efficient and sustainable use of energy, accessible for all is ensured through a clean energy system and a just transition.
Clean and competitive solutions for all transport modes
Expected impact: Towards climate-neutral and environmentally friendly mobility through clean solutions across all transport modes while increasing global competitiveness of the EU transport sector.
Safe, Resilient Transport and Smart Mobility services for passengers and goods
Expected impact: Safe, seamless, smart, inclusive, resilient, climate-neutral and sustainable mobility systems for people and goods thanks to user-centric technologies and services including digital technologies and advanced satellite navigation services.
Plan your proposal writing resources
Identifying the most fitting call topic for your research and innovation project is already a task on it’s own, but allocating the resources to develop a high-quality proposal is a huge time investment by all partners and especially by the project coordinator. For the 2023 calls in Cluster 5 of Horizon Europe, the below infographic provides an overview of all opportunities in relation to their submission deadline as a resource for you to identify relevant calls and plan your grant application.
How accelopment supports your Climate, Energy and Mobility proposal
Once you have identified a suitable call for your project idea (possibly with our Strategic Grant Planning service), we can offer you professional Proposal Writing support based on your needs, whether you want your proposal to be reviewed, only require help for certain parts of it or would like a full proposal writing support. With our long-standing experience from successful climate, energy and mobility proposals in Horizon 2020 and now also in Horizon Europe (ROADVIEW, SOLARX and PEPPERONI) we can help you write a competitive research and innovation project application. Contact us to discuss what we can do for you.
