A closer look at forthcoming funding opportunities in Horizon Europe Cluster 5

The European Green Deal initiative is one of the major policy priorities of the European Commission. This initiative is supported through a plethora of funding opportunities to support research and innovation projects that tackle a variety of relevant topics. Cluster 5 of Horizon Europe’s Pillar 2 is designated to support R&I projects that address mitigating climate change and minimising associated negative impacts, accelerating the green energy transition, and revolutionising the mobility sector.

Forthcoming funding opportunities in cluster 5 – Climate, Energy and Mobility

The 2023-2025 Work Programme for the Climate, Energy and Mobility cluster features a remaining four calls with 34 call topics and an allocated budget of 39 million euro for project tackling the climate transition in the call “Cross-sectoral solutions for the climate transition”, 188.6 million euro for projects addressing the energy transition in the calls “Sustainable, secure and competitive energy supply” and “Efficient, sustainable and inclusive energy use”, and 124.5 million euro for research and innovation in the mobility sector through the “Safe, Resilient Transport and Smart Mobility services for passengers and goods” call. Proposal submissions are split almost evenly between two deadlines – two calls with 16 call topics close on 5 September 2024 and two calls with 18 call topics close on 21 January 2025. Both deadlines include Research and Innovation Actions, Innovation Actions, and Coordination and Support Actions. Across all 34 call topics, the European Commission expects to fund a total of 67 projects.
