Green Deal funding available for climate actions
5th October 2022 at 8:09 am
The Green Deal is the catalyst for Europe’s green transformation
With the Green Deal, the EU will contribute billions of Euros to tackle environmental, economic, and societal challenges. This will be done via ambitious funding schemes, especially the EU’s research and innovation framework programme Horizon Europe, the LIFE programme and the four Missions initiatives that address climate change and the environment with a focus on ocean health, soil health, climate action and 100 carbon neutral cities. With the cities mission, 100 European Cities from all 27 member states and associated or aspiring to be associated countries, have already expressed their intention to participate in the Mission. The Green Deal has a strong focus on climate action and energy transformation, trialling and assessing new innovations whilst attending to the social and economic impact of the transition.
Open calls for climate action
Climate action straddles all areas of the Green Deal but especially within Horizon Europe, cluster 5, Climate, Energy and Mobility and the LIFE programme with its subprogrammes Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation. We have looked at Green Deal funding opportunities from the 2021-2022 work programmes currently open for submission or forthcoming.
There is Horizon Europe funding available with the latest submission deadlines in January 2023. Calls include research and innovation and innovation actions on Photovoltaics, HORIZON-CL5-2022-D3-03-05 and HORIZON-CL5-2022-D3-03-09 both with a deadline on 10 January 2023. There is funding to improve the environmental footprint of the Construction industry, for example, HORIZON-CL5-2022-D4-02-05 will fund work on sustainable buildings with reduced embodied energy and HORIZON-CL5-2022-D4-02-04 will fund work on SMART Ready Buildings. Both are innovation actions with a submission deadline on 24 January 2023. There is funding available for the development of digital solutions for Hydropower operations HORIZON-CL5-2022-D3-03-08 and HORIZON-CL5-2022-D3-03-07 will fund work on renewable bio and non-biofuels. Both are exciting research and innovation projects with a submission deadline on 10 January 2023.
Three Marie Skłodowska Curie Action (MSCA) opportunities
Additionally, there are three forthcoming opportunities to fund doctoral networks. The HORIZON-MSCA-2022-SE-01-01 will fund staff exchanges, cooperation and interdisciplinary knowledge transfer and the HORIZON-MSCA-2022-COFUND-01-01 will support interdisciplinarity and the development of transferable skills and competencies. The submission deadlines are, for the SE, 8 March 2023, and for the COFUND, 9 February 2023. Another MSCA Doctoral Network grant HORIZON-MSCA-2022-DN-01 is open with a deadline on 15 November 2022. The MSCA programme like other EU funding programmes is firmly committed to the Green Deal as stated in the MSCA Green Charter.
The listing above is not exhaustive and there are other Green Deal / Horizon Europe opportunities open for submission or forthcoming, see table.
